"Literature Commentary Final Draft."

Imagine waiting 20 years to go home, see your family and get back to your old life, try and think what you think it would be like. All of the challenges you would have to go through.Odysseus, a Greek god, had to face many obstacles throughout his journey back to Ithica. Odysseus learned how to be strong physically and mentally through out his journey home.


Odysseus had to go through many difficult physical challenges, throughout his long time back home. For example, one of Odysseus’s first physical challenges was to defeat Cyclops, who in the story is a giant monster with one eye, who wants to eat Odysseus’s men. Odysseus’s mainly had to use physical strength to stick the spear in the Cyclops eye, but he also used mental strength to think of a good plan that would work for him and his men. The defeat was mainly physical. By Odysseus stabbing Cyclops in his eye, shows that Odysseus has the mental and physical to defeat anyone. In addition, Odysseus also dressed up as a beggar and had to achieve the great bow and arrow task. This task required a lot of strength, many men before Odysseus failed to complete this task properly. It proves how much Odysseus could do. Odysseus was a very strong person, his strength was one of the factors that helped him survive through his way home.


Not only was Odysseus physically strong, he was also very wise. For example, he had to face Calypso and her seductive charm, she was very evil, but was able to keep Odysseus by her looks. This shows that mentally Odysseus wasn’t strong enough to run from her, he missed home in the day and was okay at night. This also shows that Odysseus’s thoughts could get the best of him. In addition, Odysseus had to deal with the sirens, they as well have a seductive charm and sung to the men so that they would stay. This shows that any seductive charm, could get Odysseus in trouble. Many Goddesses used that to reel their men in. If Odysseus had better mental strength, he probably wouldn’t have to have been on a journey home, it would have never happened.


All together Odysseus had a tough, long and enduring journey back to Ithica. Many challenges he faced could have been prevented and solved a little better. Odysseus was a strong, wise man. He had flaws, but that’s what helped mold the story.

Romeo & Juliet Acts 4 & 5 Content Paragraph - Deaths

I think Romeo and Juliet died because of human errors. There wasn't enough communication. Juliet faked her death, then Romeo came killed himself and Juliet woke up and killed herself. If it was fate Romeo would have been caught by who was looking for him. Juliet would marry Paris, then later died. This was all human errors, if it was fate then they would have been together. Fate wouldn't have ended it like this. I don't feel like any of they deserved to die.

Dear Juliet,

This is killing me that I cannot see you, every second from you is another day without purpose. I life for you, you keep me going. I no longer know what to do. Romeo & Juliet Act 3 Content Paragraph - Rules

There are a lot of positive and negative consequences of breaking rules. If your break a rule the good thing is you get what you want, the bad thing that you could get in a lot of trouble depending on how big the rule was. Romeo and Juliet are sneaking around to see each other which is breaking a rule, the positive thing is that they get to see each other, the negative thing is that if they get caught they will be in a lot of trouble. Another thing that happens in Romeo and Juliet is that Juliet is suppose to marry Paris. She plans to run away the positive thing is that she gets to go off with Romeo, the negative thing is no matter where she ends up if she gets caught they will send her back home, because it's like her dad owns her. Romeo and Juliet got married because they love each other so much, but once again if they get caught it'll be over for them. Romeo killed Tybalt, for killing Mercuico. Now Romeo has to run away because they want to kill Romeo. Romeo and Juliet keep breaking rules. Which is giving them more things to hid and keep a secret which is hard to do. If their wasn't any rule breaking in this poem, Romeo and Juliet wouldn't be the same story today.

Odyssey Part B - Content Paragraph - Women

In Greek myths the women are portrayed in many different ways. Most of them use their seductive charm, their sexy looks, and their way of words. The only one of them is the nice one, and that's Athena. Athena is more of the motherly role. I think of Athena like virgin Mary. For example Circe used her charm to keep Odysseus with her. Circe is a Greek God. We haven't met all of the Greek Gods, but we have an idea of how the women act. If young girls read stories like them it can teach them to be a lot of things. It can teach them to be tricky, and how to use their looks to get what they want, which is a bad thing. These stories are good to read to entertain you, but then again it can give girls the wrong message.

Now everything is going to be so much harder, after the death Merctio. I was so mad, that he killed Tybalt. I did not mean to kill him, but it was either him or I. I hope that you will wait for me, because I will return back to you. I know that you are marrying Paris soon. I wish that our parents wouldn't arrange marriages, but thats just how it has to be for now.

Odyssey Part A - Content Paragraph - Heroes & Conflict

I don't think overcoming external conflicts alone makes someone heroic. A lot of things contribute to it. Not just one thing. I feel as if, you make a drastic impact in someone life, or you save a life you can be a hero. Police are heros, so are doctors, nurses, lawyers, and firefighters. An external conflict is something that everyone sees, something thats not big for the hero. I think an internal conflict, is a big thing because its something that the hero struggles with and has to deal with , while still being a hero.

Romeo & Juliet Act 2 Content Paragraph - True or Forbidden Love

I think that Romeo and Juliet are really in love because, when they kissed at the masquarade they didnt even know eachother. It's not like Romeo or Juliet found out that their familys hated eachother, then decided they loved eachother. It was the first kiss at the masqurade. I think that forbidden love has an effect somewhat, people want something more sometimes when it's not allowed. I still think its true love though.

Romeo and Juliet – Conflict in Verona and San Diego

Many things that take place in Verona ( Romeo and Juliet) , can take place in San Diego today. Things such as rasicm, arranged marriages, and familys that don't get along. Juliet's family the Capulets, and Romeo's family the Montagues hate eachother. In differnet countries familys still arange marriages between their sons and daughters, and they don't have a choice in who they marry. Also people aren't allowed to mary people out of their kind (rasicm). Thjis story is revalent because it relates well with whats happening today.

Before You Read – Part A – Heroes

A hero is someone that is brave. A her is someone loyal, and someone that you can count on. Like spider man, he's always there when someone is in danger to help. He puts himself in danger to help others. You can always count on him to be there when trouble arises.  External conflict is the conflict that everyone sees outside, it's the conflict that is well known by all of the audience. Primary and secondary sources are important because it gives you two different view points, it gives you a broad thinking way.

I have felt trapped between both worlds before. I use to have to act a lot different by my parents then I would act normally, my parents and my family expected so much from me and wanted me to be something I completely wasn't. They expected a 4.0 and for me to be classy, no fights no boyfriends. I mean I could take the being classy part, but I wanted to date, and every girl gets into fights in high school. They wanted that perfect daughter, or family member that they could brag about. I never really exceeded their expectations, I guess that's why things are they way that they are now. I learned now that I should just be myself. Pretending to be someone your not is hard work, and if someone can't accept you for how you are, then maybe you're just better without them.

Who was William Shakespeare? He was a poet back in the day. His poem were so strong and many people adored him and the poems he wrote. I think back then would have loved all of his plays. Now it would be a different because we advanced in poems. Shakespeare was inspirational and everyone thought his plays were so life-like and beautiful. Reading Romeo & Juliet I had so many emotions going on. His poems have you feeling like your actually their. All the emotions going on with the characters, I felt for them too.

I remember when my little sister Mikayla was born, just like it was yesterday. February 24th,2004. I was at school and the principle called me to the office on the intercom. Everyone in the classroom teased " Ooooo you're in trouble!" I was so scared but I didn't show it. I walked to the principles office thinking over everything that I've done recently, and I couldn't think of anything that would actually land me in the principles office. I was a nervous wreck and as soon as I walked in the office I broke down, my eyes were so watery I barley could see. I felt someone hug me and say "whats wrong?" still sobbing I replied "I'm in trouble!" I looked up and realized it was my dad holding me. He got on one knee and said "who said that?" I said "I got sent up here". My dad then realized that I thought I was there because I was in trouble. He told me that I had a baby sister now named Mikayla, I was so happy because I always wanted to be a big sister. I went to the hospital with my daddy, because my little sister couldn't leave just yet. I will never forget that day.

"I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud"

When I look into the orange groves, I see hundreds and hundreds of trees, all identical. With about 20 oranges on each tree. I hear the wind blowing the leaves on the trees. I smell the fresh air. I feel nothing, I just space off and stare at the orange groves. I wish I could eat them all, they are juicy and delicious. Living by these trees make me feel like I will never go hungry again :)

"Boy at the Window" Before You Read: Silly Childhood Fear

When I was little I was terrified of sleeping alone and the dark. I use to fall asleep with my t.v on and the door open. I use to get horrible nightmares that had my crying and running to my Mommy's room. I loved having my own room in the day time. I remember moving into my new house and dreaded these words from my mom " Honey your getting your own room!" she said it with so much excitement, I was so scared that I ran into my moms room and cried so hard that I just feel asleep. It took me such a long time to get over that fear. Only recently I got over that fact, and learned to sleep with my door closed and the light off, but that's only because I have a roommate :)

Since I was little all I wanted was to fit in. I wanted to get along with everyone. I wanted to be the most popular and the best looking. The girl that everyone wanted and adored. I expected so much in myself and many times failed to reach my expectations. It started off when I was in elementary school I had my two best friends, Janet and Ada. I remember the times that we shared like it was yesterday. The time that stuck out the most was when we joined the talent show. I remember how hard we practiced. We did so great everyone forgot about the lie I told. I also remember how in middle school i would always try and hang out with the cool crowd even though I didn't really fit in because I didn't dress how they did or have long hair and piercings like they did. I would always try to go home and change how I looked so that I could just fit in. I later on moved to a different high school and I met my best friend Tahnee. We clicked the first day I met her. She taught me a how to accept myself. By 7th grade I've grown tremendously, I was very mature, and learned to gain respect for myself. I tried my hardest to treat people how I wanted to so that I wouldn't fight with everyone. I took advanced classes even though I didn't really know how to do it, I just wanted to look smart. My eighth grade year I really step it up and got a 3.0 :) . In high school I had a lot of drama, because again a different crowd and I wanted to fit in, by the end of my freshman year I learned how to deal with people better. I've gone through so many stages in my life that helped mold me into the person that I am today. I want to be remembered as who I was and who I am now, a totally different person.

Learning about President Kennedy's death and his life helped me learned a lot of things. In Ms.Priesters english class we read about JFK and his time as president and what happened leading up to his death. When JFK was murdered he was fighting against rasicm it was very common back then. It still is now, but not as bad as before. History help you understand nonfiction more because they have more facts to go behind the story.

My manmade object is an straightener, to nature it is compared like the sun. They both are very hot. The straightener is as blazing as the sun. The straightener is not just like the sun because its hot, its also something to be careful with and that can burn you.

Kennedy Nonfiction: Before You Read - Primary or Secondary Source

Id rather learn about a crime scene by a secondary source. I like to hear a lot of different views when things happen and not just the view from one person. It's interesting to hear different perspective from news reporters or eye witnesses because they were actually their and saw what happened or talked to the people who saw it. Some people don't think it would as accurate because its not a primary source. I think secondary sources broadens your view.

I think that Elena needed to be more worried about JFK's death. It does impact her, because she's not allowed to see Eugene because she is puerto rican. JFK was fighting rasicm, if their wasn't rasicm she would have been able to see Eugene. Elena was all boy crazy and just simply caught up in how much she liked Eugene. Every day I have things I am responsible for doing myself. Whether I would like to do them or not these are necessities of my every day life. All of these things include:

• Brushing my teeth

 One time I went to a store with about 4-5 of my friends. We all just wanted to window shop and look around. We came across a little store called shoe repair , it had a lot of cute stuff in the windows so we went in. As soon as we came in both the husband and the wife came from the back of the store screaming "ONE AT A TIME PLEASE, ONE AT A TIME!" We were confused and just backed up. So I went in first and asked " Why only one at a time?" She said because she didn't want more than one black person in her store because they couldn't keep track of them. I then again asked why and she said because black people are theives. I then just walked out. I was very upset because every race steals. Even though some races steal more then others its wrong to just classify african americans as thieves.

A Blessing

One time when I was at a party , I was arguing with a close friend. We kept calling back and fourth yelling at each other. My friend has epilepsy , but it wasn't that bad. He use to take medication to make it better. When the party was almost about to end I gave my friend another call, again we were yelling and then I heard silence. Shortly after I heard a banging noise and someone trying to speak. I didn't know yet what was happening, so I just continued to yell and scream. After a while I realized that my friend was having a seizure. I called his friends that lived down the street and continually called the house phone. Finally I got a hold of his mom and told her what happened. She was completely unaware of what happened and ran to see if he was OK. She had to rest his head up because if you have a seizure you can choke on your own blood,or spit. I had a panic attack and broke down. Eventually I got a ride to his house and stayed to make sure he was OK. I learned to never take anyone for granted because you never know when they could be gone.

Summer School Plan

This summer I took gym for first period with coach Burgos, and history with Mr. Bello. I passed both classes with an A, getting my credit and getting off of two hour. For Ms.Priesters class I will work hard, and have perserverence. I will also make sure that I am on top of all my work, and that I go and ask for help when needed. I know that it's going to be hard because I'm a very lazy person but I know that I need the credits so that i won't have to do summer school all of my high school life because I've messed up my previous years. I also feel like there is no point in going to summer school every day if I am just going to fail this class. So i'm making sure that I pass this class with an A, so that it can also boost up my GPA.

Portfolio - Improvement

Over the past two years, I have improved on my writing skills. I have also improved on my vocabulary skills. Now they're a lot stronger and writing comes more easy to me. I improved by taking all the feedback in and making sure that I use it the next time I did a paper. Before high school, and now my reading skills have been the same. I've also always been a good reader so nothing has changed, I just learned a couple of new words. Before high school I didn't have a broad vocabulary even in my freshman year but ending my sophmore year my vocabulary has broadend and instead of cursing I can use other words, to describe my emotions. It feels a lot better to tell someone off, and not use one curse word. I've always been good at working in groups, I just never liked to do it. I feel like when you work in groups you have to depend on someone for your grade and sometimes people fail to do whats required then you end up with a bad grade. Before high school I've always been good in technology, I've always been advanced. In the rest of my high school years I will continuslly take feedback and learn more things so that I can make the rest of my years a lot better and easier for me

Portfolio - Future

I take my future very serious. Every descion that you make now will affect your future. It could be by the tinyiest thing or the biggest thing. I also have several goals for my future. I want to graduate high school with a 3.0 GPA so that I won't have a problem getting into the university that I choose to. I also would like to get a medical degree so that I can be an obstetrician. While I'm going to school I want to work part time at a clothing store,or something around that nature. I want to have a family with kids and be succesful. A lot of people use the fact that they're a foster kid as an excuse of why they can't achieve their goals. I believe that hard work can take you anywhere. I have been through a lot , but it has taught me to work hard for what you want in life. I know that sometimes I'm going to want to quit, because my career requires a lot of school. I need to make my study habbits stronger and buckle down. My mom is one of my biggest supporters and I know she will help me achieve my goals. I know that I will be able achieve my goals, because if I really want something I will do everything that I can to get it.

My Educational Experiences

Due to my educational experiences, I am currently not caught up with all of my credits. I am trying my hardest to get caught up and mantain a good GPA to get into the university that I choose. I could've prevented missing my two freshman year credits but instead I fooled around and was caught up in all the drama so I missed my two credits for english and math. Right now I have partical credits for my sophmore year. My credits aren't too bad, but they could've been better. Now I'm trying to get tutors especially in the classes that I know that I struggle with. I make sure that I do all my homework even when I don't feel like doing it. I try to study for up coming test as well. I feel like I'm becoming more responsible and mature as far as taking care of my school buisness. If this all works out I know that I'll be able to be succesful, go to college, and get a high paying job. I know it's a lot of hard work but it'll be well worth it at the end.

Playwrights Project Play Performance Paragraph

Today I was very impressed. Seeing all of the actors perform plays by the kids that go to my school was interesting to watch. I didn't think that the playwrights were going to be as good as they were. There are a lot of creative kids of campus. The playwrights had a lot of emotion into it, you would almost feel like you were actually in the play. Everyone did a great job on their plays. Seeing my play made me feel good, I realized my potential at writitng. I also know what I need to work on. I think that I'm going to continue writing for fun in my spare time.

Greatest High School Obstacle

My biggest high school obstacle was when I was a freshman. I was going to Serra High School, down in San Diego. I was so excited to start high school. Quickly I got caught up in a lot of the drama and I started to decline in my academics. I didn't care too much about my grades because I was caught up in the social life. When I started to want good grades it was too late, because once you start doing bad in school it's hard to get your grade back up. I wish that I would have just done good from the beginning, but now I've learned my lesson so I try my hardest in school. I try to stay clear from drama, but it doesn't always work. As of now school is my main priority.

Finsihing Playwright Project

I wasn't here when the class first got started on the playwright project, but I came towards the middle. When Ms.Priester first gave us this assignment I was really excited, because I feel like I'm really creative, and I like projects like these. However as we started going on, I started getting really frustrated because there seemed to be so many things we needed to do with the project. I felt like there were so many rules that it kind of lessened the fun of the project. I still enjoyed doing this project though. It feels great to be done, because for a bit I was behind. I've been working hard these last couple of days to make sure I turned it in on time, and it was as close to perfection as I could make it. Overall this playwright was stressful, but I feel like it's going to be worth it.

SPA Prom 2011 or Freewrite

I actually went to prom this weekend. To be honest it was not as fun as I thought it would be, but it was alright. The food was really good though. The DJ was HORRIBLE, it was really hard to dance to all the songs she played , but we tried to make the best of it. The dessert was bomb. They also had a photobooth where a lot of kids took pictures, I took a couple with Jacinta,JoJo,and Cristana. I also couldn't really enjoy my time there because someone stole my phone a couple hours before prom. I was really sad, because my phone is like my life. On the way back from prom there was A LOT of drama, I felt like it was all unnescary and that everyone shoulda just dropped it. I don't feel like anything is worth fighting for at SPA. Well anyways the best part of my weekend was going food shopping , next weekend I will be going on pass yay :)
